The Fairmount Park Art Association was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from Representative Ronald Waters for “Labor in the Park,” a community public art project for Elmwood Park at 71st and Buist Streets in Southwest Philadelphia.

Public Art on Digital Billboards

The Fairmount Park Art Association is currently featured on eight digital billboards located in and around the city. The new digital billboards (which replaced existing billboards) show three different artworks photographed during the day and at night – demonstrating that Philadelphia’s public art is “always open.”

On a beautiful clear day in June, two flat-bed trucks loaded with 17.5 tons of painted red steel waited until morning rush hour eased before crossing Eakins Oval to deliver their cargo to the grassy plot opposite the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Nevelson Conservation Update

The Fairmount Park Art Association (now Association for Public Art) worked with conservators at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to provide comprehensive conservation treatment for “Atmosphere and Environment XII” by Louise Nevelson.
