Kick-off Women’s History Month with a Deeper Look at Our New Exhibit!
Join us on Friday, March 1st, for a special “Meet the Curator” First Friday curatorial talk for our latest exhibit, Public Art in Philadelphia: A Legacy Shaped by Women. Co-curated by the Association for Public Art and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP), this exhibit delves into the influential role of women in shaping Philadelphia’s public art landscape.
Gain exclusive insights from Susan Myers, Assistant Curator and Project Manager at aPA, as she shares the fascinating lives and contributions of remarkable women such as Hélène Sardeau, Gwen Lux, Anna Coleman Ladd, and Margaret Brassler Kane.
We also invite you to share your own stories, reflections, and connections to the exhibit. Audio recordings will be collected during the event for those who wish to participate.
This event is free and open to all, with refreshments provided. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of the profound impact of women in Philadelphia’s artistic legacy!
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT: In partnership with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) as part of its 200th anniversary in 2024, the Association for Public Art (aPA) presents Public Art in Philadelphia: A Legacy Shaped by Women – an exhibit highlighting the historic accomplishments and recent contributions of women who have worked in the public art field as artists, benefactors, and leaders. Exploring the Association for Public Art’s archival collection at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, as well as contemporary materials housed at aPA, the exhibit provides insight into the long-lasting impact of women’s contributions to the ongoing public art landscape, both locally and nationally. On view and free to visit through MARCH 15TH at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania during library hours.
