Barbara Grygutis’ Lifelines rises out of a lower level courtyard of Suburban Station on 16th and JFK Boulevard. The sculptural environment is made up of five leaf-like glass and metal structures with multiple glass block and granite benches interspersed throughout the leaf forms. The artwork can be observed from many perspectives, including the street level and lower level of the station. At night, the sculpture glows from lighting installed within the work.
Commissioned by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) Art in Transit Program, Lifelines was installed in 2006. Bower Lewis Thrower Architects collaborated with Grygutis on the installation and was responsible for the renovations of Suburban Station.
