The Association for Public Art (aPA), in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, undertakes the ongoing landscape maintenance of the Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial located along Kelly Drive.

As part of this long-operating program, the aPA recently hired arborists to assess three large and precarious looking London Plane trees along the riverside recreation path. It was concluded that the trees were dead and should be removed, as they posed a potential threat to the artwork and safety of pedestrians. To prevent damage or injury, the aPA together with Parks & Recreation, made the decision to safely remove the trees.
